POWER STATION
This is a ‘show and do’ project building a solar POWER STATION across the rooftops (streets, schools, community buildings) of North East London as a rallying cry and call to action. Together we enact a grassroots, arts and story led Green New Deal -building technological, societal and imagination infrastructures to tackle the interlinked climate/energy/economic crises.
“In the absence of government leadership on the necessary rapid transition to renewables this project is a beacon of hope.”
POWER STATION is grounded in a diverse street in London. This feature documentary expands beyond the screen to tracks the trials and tribulations of what happens when community and culture not only declare but take action.
The media and many of our politicians often turn climate action into a class and culture war promoting a logic of division and scarcity. POWER STATION challenges this and shows how we can join together in abundance and make the urgent shift towards equitable, collective action.
We counter the arguments that we cannot afford to radically and rapidly transform our energy system – we cannot afford not to. This challenge to the orthodoxies of economics is at the heart of the film and POWER STATION as a work and movement for climate justice - questioning our current value systems and placing the real value on people.
As we move through the ‘polycrisis’ impacting how we live, play, eat, rest, learn, love, heal and grow the film takes audiences on an urban rollercoaster through the daily challenges we all grapple with. We make and share a story devoid of patronising, preachy tone - built from honesty, humour and commitment to the everyday work involved in the mantra ‘another world is possible.’
“Changing the world. One street at a time”
“I love it when artists get involved and creative things happen that sidestep the official ways of doing things -meaning innovation, power to the people and magic! ”
